I have to make a lead counterweight which is mounted at the top of the rudder to keep it centered. It is fabricated from strip lead which is cut to shape and put together in a sandwich which is supposed to weigh 1 and 1/2 pounds. Now it turns out I don't have one of those nifty little scales that recognizes a pound and a half when it sees it. My lovely and talented wife got the bright idea to use that old apothecary scale that we had lying around. The lead is in the pan on the left. It took me the longest time to figure out how to find exactly 1 and 1/2 pounds to put in the other pan. I have learned through long experience that when stumped, it's time to break for lunch. The answer came to me in a flash when I was making my sandwich. 6 quarter pound sticks...well you get the idea.
